Tomatillos may resemble green tomatoes slightly, but they’re a completely different fruit. They do belong to nightshade family, the same family but they have a very different flavor than tomatoes. The Aztecs called the little green tomato “tomatl” which was confused by the Spaniards for “tomate” (tomato).
